YOUNG SAVANTS
Savant: A person of learning; especially: one with detailed knowledge in some special field (as in literature, mathematics, or basketball); wise through reflection and experience; characterized by prudence and good judgment

MISSION
- To leverage the energy our youth spend on basketball and educate them to harness this energy and redirect it into crucial areas of their lives
- To provide students with the life and academic skills necessary to succeed beyond basketball and athletics
- To advance the wonderful cycle of giving

WHO DO WE SERVE?
- A diverse group of boys & girls between the ages 6-18
- Under served inner city youth 90 % of our participants are from Greater Boston

WHY YOUNG SAVANTS?
- Less than 10% of all college grads come from economically disadvantaged households
- Basketball provides an opportunity for students to build positive, healthy, constructive, meaningful and lifelong relationships both on and off the court

OUR PROGRAM’S FOCUS
- Mandatory Study Halls
- Dress for Success/Dress professionally
- Annual College Campus Trip
- Workshops, lead by trained professionals, on violence and substance abuse prevention

- Consists of people from ALL walks of life
- Alumni, Volunteers, College Athletes
- Professionals, Educators, Law Enforcement Agents
- No staff member has ever received a stipend or salary
- 100% of donations are put towards funding and expanding our programs!!

- We provide exposure to college campuses

- Students receive wellness training from experienced collegiate athletes, coaches, and trainers

OUR VALUES

- Young Savants will speak intelligently, dress for success, and learn job readiness
- Students will be taught that they are “Built for Others”
- We will work closely with students to help each one learn how to fulfill their goals and ambitions

ANNUAL COLLEGE TRIPWE WILL REQUEST FROM COLLEGES…
- Scholarships for 10-15 students to attend their team camp
- Historical tours of campus and city
- Lists of constructive, fun things to do while on the trip from a school liaison
- Access to local hotels and car rental establishments
- Room and Board
- Tours of locker rooms and coaching areas, team meetings with coach and his/her staff
- T-Shirts and hats as souvenirs
- Picture sessions
- Someone in admissions to speak to the team about what makes a strong, compelling candidate for admissions

EARNING THE RIGHT TO GO ON TRIPS
- A team GPA of 3.0 or higher
- A community service team initiative project must be completed
- No substance abuse
- No legal entanglements
- Demonstrate proper behavior in the classroom, at home, and at their place of employment
- Participation in Team’s Fundraiser: The Young Savants Free Throw Shoot-A-Thon
